Species Diversity Index- calculate the SDI, you will be given the formula
  • Given a list of organims present in an area, calculate the diversity index of each area. You will be given the formula- just know how to use it.
  • Be able to assess which area is more diverse than another area
  • List why biodiversity is valuable to an environment
  • Describe human practices that decrease biodiversity

Population
  • Draw a population histogram/pyramid given data of cohort sizes
  • Draw a survivorship curve given data on number of organisms surviving from year to year
  • Describe the predator-prey cycle and be able to interpret a graph of this cycling interaction
  • Calculate doubling time, growth rate, birth rate, death rate, given crude data
  • Suggest/outline an experiment to monitor population growth rate and r- vs. k- selected species

Water Quality
  • Describe the procedure for Biological Water Quality Sampling
